Sometimes I get mad at myself for being so cotdamn pretentious during the 90's with my hip-hop. If it wasn't at least loosely affiliated with the Native Tongues I simply wasn't checking for it.

So, as a result of my ignorance, I never even gave Mobb Deep a chance.

It's a shame since now they're with G-Unit and chances are you'll have to sift through 15 tracks of Fiddy crooning just to hear some dope rhymes.

Everyone hates on Will I Am of BEP. "BEP sold out" they say.

No matter what you think of the Peas, Will is still the man in my book. He reworked a bunch of old classics by Sergio Mendes with a different edge. Was it necessary? No. Did it always work? No.

But he put Black Thought and Chali 2na on a track. As usual, they both rip it. And the Fish gets the pic nod because he reps the Chi constantly.

No, I am not spreading my usual Jigga hate because he steals all his lyrics. Actually, I like Jay-Z as an artist. Not a huge fan but I respect what he has done (even though he is a biter).

No, this time the hate comes from the fact that he is meddling with Grime. I have been listening to Roots Manuva, Dizzee Rascal, a lot of that shit for years now. And I come to find out this week that he has signed Lady Sovereign to a contract with Def Jam. Why should that upset me? Well, because with that U.S. contract will supposedly be collaborations with such American artists as Missy and the Neptunes.

No, I don't hate Missy or Chad and Pharrell either. But don't eff with my U.K. hip-hop. Hey Shawn, you keep making your safe and stale hip-hop and leave the real shit alone okay? I already know what Missy and Neptunes beats sound like. You want to promote Grime in the U.S.? Great. But leave the beats alone. If I want to hear the same tired old shit I'll watch BET or listen to the radio.

And now I give you the S-O-V. 18 years and 61" of pure grimey U.K. hip-hop. Before Jigga fucks it up that is.

Everyone thought this was a good idea but no feedback?

If you guys aren't going to download the goods then there is no sense in me doing this so give me some feedback so I know whether to continue or not. If you think my idea is lame or the music sucks then just say so, I won't be offended.

The Birth of D.A.F.

Originally, when this whole internet thing started out, I found this "music locker" type thing where I could upload music and my friends could download it off the site and I could spread my music knowledge. That site went under in less than a year.

There are all sorts of ways to share music now but a blog seemed like a cool idea for a few reasons. One is that I get to "pontificate" about my love of music. The other is that I get to make comments and maybe even use it to keep in touch with others when I make my move to Tobacco Road.

"D.A.F." was born as I was trying to think of a catchphrase or DJ moniker for a party I was going to do. Since I already liked the phrase "dope as f--k" it just seemed like a nice acronym. Thus, "D.A.F." was born.

I hope you all will find this blog to be totally D.A.F. or, at the very least, a place to find some cool tunes quickly or when you're bored. The first is on it's way and feel free to leave comments.

Also, if anyone wants to be a CONTRIBUTOR to the blog, we can maybe make this a dope forum.
